TROOP 12 SUMMER CAMP 2010
The Details
Troop 12 has been attending Camp Keowa at Ten Mile River for the past 9 years, and we have the best campsite – right on the lake! (Same as last year). Attending summer camp is an important and necessary part of the Scout experience in that it gives everyone the ability to earn several merit badges in only a week and many of these badges can only be earned at camp. Last year as a troop, we brought home over 100 merit badges!
Merit badges earned and available at summer camp include: environmental science, climbing, wilderness survival, pioneering, camping, shotgun and rifle shooting, boating, waterskiing, archery and many more. And there are lots of other fun things things to do: War canoes, Water trampoline, Polar bear swim, Mountain Biking...
And then while everything else is going on, whether we want to or no, we learn leadership skills, gain confidence to be more self-reliant and practice teamwork while building camaraderie within our troop and with scouts from other troops. And all of this happens while having a lot of fun and making friends and creating memories that will last a lifetime!!
Other Opportunities This Summer
National Youth Leadership Training (Dates TBD – but historically the week before Keowa) @ Ten Mile River. This program is available to First Class Scouts who were 13 years old by July 1, 2007 and who hold, or are soon to hold, a leadership position in Troop 12. Thanks to an endowment, there are some camperships available. Some, or all of the $310 fee may be picked up by the troop. Again, please speak to Sean.
High Adventure Trek Historically, the troop has sponsored high adventure treks, usually in the week immediately following summer camp. These have ranged from the organized trips at Ten Mile River to Adirondack High Peaks treks. However, this is highly dependent on adult participation/leadership. Please contact Andy to discuss your suggestions for trips and your interest in helping to lead these opportunities.
Provisional Camping Individual scouts can participate in week long camps at Ten Mile River or other Boy Scout Camps during sessions when Troop 12 is not there. Scouts are placed with another troop or with groups comprised of individual attendees. The fee for this, at TMR, is $280(early bird).
There is a lot of good information on the website - so please visit.
